Facelift

Our face conveys how we feel through expression and appearance. Facial aging greatly impacts our appearance and how others see us. The course of aging can result in loss of skin tone, sagging tissues, and wrinkles. A facelift can correct these consequences, by tightening sagging skin and muscle, removing excess fat, and restoring a youthful and vibrant appearance.

3 Reasons for Facelift Surgery

1) Patients who desire facelifts want to address sagging skin and loss of muscle tone that has created jowls and loose skin around the neck.

2) Creases that have formed between the nose and mouth known as nasolabial folds, can give the appearance of being tired or sad.

3) A facelift is best performed on adult men and women who feel that their outward facial aging does not reflect the vigor and vitality that they feel physically and emotionally.

Best Candidates for Facelift

Typically, a younger patient in their 40’s or 50’s may be a more appropriate candidate for a limited or mini-facelift, whereas an older patient may be a more suitable candidate for a more extensive facelift.

The degree of lift required is dependent on the extent of the facial laxity. Dr. Breitbart will discuss with you which procedure is most appropriate depending upon your desired outcome, age, and other factors.

Info on Facelift Procedure

Facelift surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under sedation or general anesthesia. The extent of the incisions depends upon the degree of facial and neck laxity to be treated. Dr. Breitbart may make incisions in the region of the hairline at the temples, around the ear, behind the ear, and under the chin to minimize visibility and scarring.

Quick Tips on Recovery

For most patients the recovery time takes approximately one to two weeks, after which normal activity can be resumed. Sutures can be removed within a period of seven to ten days following surgery. There may be some localized swelling and bruising, most of which gradually diminishes over a two-week period. Complete healing of the incisions and resolution of all swelling continues over the following months.

Facelift FAQs

Facelift FAQs

How long does a facelift last?

Although a facelift does not stop the aging process, it will certainly keep you looking rejuvenated for many years. Ten years after a facelift, you will still look much better than if you had not had surgery. Patients do not necessarily elect to have a second facelift, but those who do may desire additional surgery ten to fifteen years later.

Where are the scars located?

Facelift scars are placed in inconspicuous locations so that scars are invisible or barely visible. Scars are located by the hair above the ear, just in front of the ear, and behind the ear, depending on the extent of the surgery. At your consultation, Dr. Breitbart will discuss all aspects of the surgery with you so that you are comfortable with where the scars will be located. He will make every effort to minimize scarring.

Can a facelift be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Depending on the patient’s needs and preferences, a facelift can be combined with other procedures, such as eyelid surgery, brow lift, or Liposuction.

How long would I be out of work?

Most patients can return to work within one to two weeks after surgery.
