Mommy Makeover on Long Island & NYC

Mommy Makeover

As many women know, pregnancies can have a significant effect on the body, causing abdominal skin looseness, stretching of the abdominal muscles, droopiness and emptiness of the breasts, and stubborn pockets of fat on the hips and thighs. Dr. Breitbart performs Mommy Makeover surgery, which is designed to treat all these conditions, restoring a more youthful, pre-pregnancy body. Mommy Makeover surgery can typically involve an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast augmentation and/or breast lift, and liposuction. These surgeries can often be combined in a single operation, or can also be performed as separate procedures.

Mommy Makeover FAQs

In general, women should wait at least 4-6 months after pregnancy before having a Mommy Makeover. If you are planning on additional pregnancies in the near future, you should delay the Mommy Makeover until after these pregnancies.

For most Mommy Makeover patients, a tummy tuck and breast augmentation and/or breast lift can be performed in a single surgery. Dr. Breitbart can decide which procedures can safely be done together at the same time.

For most patients, the Mommy Makeover is performed as an ambulatory surgery procedure and the recovery time is 1-2 weeks.

Candidates for Mommy Makeover

Women interested in mommy makeover procedures must have good overall health and be close to their goal body weight. It's best to wait until you've finished growing your family and don't plan on future pregnancies. A positive outlook with realistic expectations can lead to the best mommy makeover results.

The mommy makeover timeline for every woman is unique to their motherhood journey. It takes nearly 10 months to grow a child, and the body needs time to revert to its normal state. For some women, six months after birth may be a good time for a combination procedure designed to restore their pre-baby figure. However, breastfeeding women will need to wait until their child is weaned and their breasts have returned to normal, which may take up to six months. The abdomen and breasts undergo immense changes during these times, and it's essential to let the body heal to achieve the desired results with mommy makeover.

Benefits of Mommy Makeover

Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding cause a myriad of changes, and diet and exercise alone can't restore a woman's pre-pregnancy breast and body shape. It's common for women to struggle with loose abdominal skin, stretched abdominal muscles (which may come with low back pain and urinary incontinence) and a loss of breast shape and volume. Areas of the body that were once taut and toned may struggle with weight loss after childbearing. Tummy tuck, liposuction and breast surgery address all of these concerns at once.

Women with children often don't have much time available for themselves, making this combination procedure the ideal way to restore a pre-baby body. Mommy makeover prevents women from undergoing several recoveries after each plastic surgery, streamlining the process for a single healing period and giving women more profound results. Abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, breast lift and liposuction as separate procedures would involve multiple recoveries.

Mommy makeover allows women to accomplish their body goals in one surgical procedure and recovery. Women often find they're more confident and feel more comfortable in their clothing after mommy makeover with an improved quality of life.

Mommy Makeover Procedures

Mommy makeover typically includes abdominoplasty, liposuction and a type of breast surgery. Some women find at the end of their childbearing and breastfeeding experience that their breasts are smaller and appear "deflated," while others may struggle with significant sagging or an overgrowth of breast tissue. Breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction may be included in mommy makeover procedures, depending on the patient's unique needs.

Breast augmentation and breast lift can often be combined for optimal results. If you have concerns with other areas, such as the buttocks, Dr. Breitbart may discuss including buttock augmentation in your mommy makeover surgical plan.

Tummy tuck is one of the hallmarks of mommy makeover surgery as most women experience moderate to severe loose skin tissue and diastasis recti (abdominal separation of the "six-pack" muscles that causes a visible bulge). Abdominoplasty eliminates excess skin tissue and tightens the abdominal muscles for a smooth, taut body shape. The procedure may eliminate stretch marks in the lower abdomen (below the belly button) caused by pregnancy. Liposuction can remove stubborn pockets of fat from the abdomen, "love handles," thighs or other body areas that are resistant to diet and exercise after childbearing.

These are the most common procedures involved in mommy makeover. Dr. Breitbart will discuss your aesthetic concerns, medical history and goals for your breasts and body during your consultation and design a surgical approach to meet your needs.
